2 Works for You is launching its annual Food 2 Families food drive benefiting the Community Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma. Due to the overwhelming support from our community, the Food 2 Families drive has broken collection records since it began 12 years ago and continues to be one of the top three food drives in Northeast Oklahoma. Starting November 23rd green country residents can donate non-perishable food items to the Food 2 Families drop-boxes. Local Boy Scout troops are also collecting for the campaign. Donations are being accepted until December 14th, 2012.
·One in five of Oklahoma’s children are at risk of going to bed hungry.
·Oklahoma ranks first in the nation, tied with Arkansas, in the number of people who are food insecure.
To officially kick it off, 2News anchors, reporters and volunteers from the Community Food Bank as well as local troops from the Boy Scouts of America will be curbside at the 2News studios accepting donations Friday November 30th from 10a – 6p. Donations can be made by driving curbside to the 2 Works for You studios.
“For more than a decade, 2 Works for You has helped make the holidays a little brighter for those truly in need,” says Donna Wilson, president and general manager of KJRH. “It demonstrates our commitment to working for the community by helping the food bank with their mission of fighting hunger and feeding hope.”
All non-perishable food items will go to the Community Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma that distributes to 450 Partner Programs in 24 counties of Eastern Oklahoma. These programs include food pantries, soup kitchens, emergency shelters, after school programs and senior citizen centers that collectively feed 60,000 people each week; the equivalent of 865,000 meals per month.
