RTV6 employees Step Out to help stop diabetes

On Sunday October 7th about 30 RTV6 employees and their families braved the freezing temperatures in Indianapolis to participate in the Step Out Walk to Stop Diabetes.

RTV6 was the media sponsor for the event and our own Call 6 Investigator Rafael Sanchez was the emcee helping fire up the crowd before the walk began…even participating in a pre-race Zumba class from the stage. (left: RTV6 Reporter Rafael Sanchez encourages walkers)

Step Out Diabetes WalkThe team has raised about 1,800 dollars so far.  At the event Larry Blackerby, vice president and general manager of RTV6, presented a check to Jennifer Pferrer, executive director of the Indiana Chapter of the American Diabetes Association on behalf of RTV6 and the Scripps Howard Foundation for $6,000 to send 6 children to Camp John Warvel Diabetes Camp.  The camp offers a unique learning atmosphere for children with diabetes to acquire new skills in caring for their diabetes. Positive attitudes about diabetes and self-confidence in diabetes management are instilled through education, encouragement and example.(right: Larry Blackerby, RTV6 with Jennifer Pferrer, ADA)
