The American Legion of Ohio awarded WCPO News anchor Tanya O’Rourke its Civilian of the Year award on Saturday, July 7, 2012 in Columbus, Ohio.
The organization chose O’Rourke for the honor because of her decision to donate her kidney to her sister’s sister-in-law in September 2011.
In April, O’Rourke received the Hamilton County Council Civilian Lifesaver award. The legion said giving a part of one’s body to save the life of another was at the top of the list of commendable and selfless acts.
